Travel advice for H1N1 VirusOn 11 June, the World Health Organization (WHO) raised the alert level for the H1N1 virus (known as 'swine flu') to phase 6. IAOO is continuing to monitor the situation carefully. The WHO states that it does not recommend a restriction on travel (http://www.who.int/csr/disease/swineflu/frequently_asked_questions/travel/en/index.html) and the Second World Congress will go ahead as planned in Toronto, Canada, July 8-11 2009. The WHO gives some advice on recommended guidelines for travellers on their website - http://www.who.int/csr/disease/swineflu/guidance/individuals/en/index.html. We recommend that all participants have appropriate health insurance policies in place when travelling. The Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel works closely with the local authorities on an on-going basis. The hotel takes direction from Public Health officials regarding any special operating procedures related to the H1N1 flu. To-date, we have not been instructed on any new protocols. We continue to monitor the situation very closely as the safety and health of our associates and guests is paramount. Additional hand sanitizing stations have been added throughout the hotel, including public areas and the lobby. Key members of the hotel team, including Security, Sales and Public Relations have subscribed for H1N1 alert updates from Health Canada so we can be informed and remain on top of the situation.
